Earlier this week I received an email, and yesterday the Wisconsin Rapids Daily Tribune ran a story that states that the old Herschleb’s Restaurant is available to rent.
Sadly, the diner’s doors have been closed since 2007 after first opening in 1946.
The diner was purchased by Patrick Goodness, owner of The Goodness Company, on December 15, 2008 for $69,000. The original asking price had been $149,000. He has proposed a rental fee of $800 per month, which he says is negotiable.
On a personal note, I would love to see something go in there and become successful. Will that be easy? I very highly doubt it. But for the right person…
I have fond memories of receiving coupons to Herschleb’s for malts on my birthday from, then, Wood County National Bank. Sitting in the back room in the middle of summer with a giant chocolate malt and burger…
Even though I can’t go back to my youth, I hope someone else is able to turn back the clock and find the same success that the original owners had six decades ago. Maybe a new generation of residents will be witness to the creation of an “iconic” Wisconsin Rapids tradition…
